Unit 4: Modernism

1.)ELAALRL2 The student identifies, analyzes, and applies knowledge of theme in a work of American literature and provides evidence from the work to support understanding.

I had alot of trouble with this standard because it was kind of difficlt to find evidence for the things i read. It made no since, so how was i suppose to find a good supporting evidence if i didn't understand what was going on in the passages.

2.)The Jazz Age
I chose the Jazz age because it seemed like it would be a good interesting story. I think the topic of this story would be about Jazz history. Comparing it to other songs to jazz and talking about its history. It should fall under ELAALRL3 The student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods.

3.) "there are only diamonds in the whole world, diamonds and perhaps the shabby gift of disillusion" was my favorite part because people use to say diamonds were a girls bestfriend and people thouhgt if you had diamonds that you were wealthy but for him to say thatthey are a disilliousion is like saying they are unemportant and meaning less and I agree with that because they are just simple possession.

4.)Richard Corey by Edwin Arlington RobinsonThe poem Richard Corey was very interesting. It talks how rich and charming a man named Richard Corey is. The poor people wants to be just like him so they do their jobs and then all of a sudden Richard goes home and kills himself. This poem is an example of Moderrnism
Mending Wallby Robert FrostThe wall is is always getting broken and every year The narrator and The neighbor is always fixing the wall. The narrator didn"t understand the purpose of the wall, and the neighbor replied" Good fences makes Good neighbors". The narrotor thought the neighbor was Dillusionment because of he thought they barely knew each other. In the end by building the wall they really had a chance to communicate.
A Dream Deferredby Langston HughesThis poem is an example of Dillusionment. It is talking about a dream. A dream that is put away for later. Then he starts to ask what happens to people who dreams an put them awy.Example:Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over-- like a syrupy sweet?
The Negro Speaks of Rivers by Langston HughesThis poem is based more on The Harlem Renaissance, because he basis of how his people have been here for the longest. He talks says "I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the flow of human blood in human veins." All that the Africans were the first to be around and that most people don't recongnize that.
Incident by Countee Cullen This poem poem to me is relly hard for me to notice what it is. I think it would be Dullisionment because he went to Balitomore and didn't expect what happend to happen. "Now I was eight and very small,And he was no whit bigger,And so I smiled, but he poked out His tongue, and called me, "Nigger."

5. Review your response to number 1 in this unit. Then explain how you have addressed the Georgia Performance Standard you said was a challenge for you. You should support this claim with evidence from your own work.I learned a new word and by reading examples and talking to others to make me understand the word better. By doing these things it has tought me how to inderstand the standard ELAALRC3 The student acquires new vocabulary in each content area and uses it correctly better.
